<p>Makeup can serve a million purposes: it can be for a fashion show, a music video, an editorial shoot, a wedding, a cocktail, a formal dinner, or a graduation. Like everything in life, you need to have a target with makeup. You wouldn’t find Beyonce wearing an outfit from her world tour while she’s taking her daughter out for a walk, and you wouldn’t find me mixing candy colors on your eyes if you are going to a brunch with your in-laws. It’s all about the target.</p>
<p><strong>Real-life VS Art</strong></p>
<p>When it comes to editorial shoots and advertising, I love to let my artistic side go mad. I love to experiment with color and texture, simply because the model in the picture is not real. She is a canvas, and the final photograph will be an artwork. Ladies, you need to know that this model is not what you are meant to be.</p>

<p>When it comes to the editorial shoots I work on for Laha, or my personal artistic looks, I am always thinking about the concept, what is the mood we are trying to create, and how can the makeup help create that mood. It can be colorful, dark, dramatic, fun, but most of the time it has to be slightly exaggerated to explain this mood</p>

<p>I want you, however, to leave my makeup studio feeling like yourself, and not like another woman you saw in a magazine – who was, by the way, photoshopped to death. This is why, ladies, most of the time I stick to earthy, nude palettes when it comes to makeup.</p>
<p><strong>The Power of Nude</strong></p>
<p>Keep one thing in mind; most Arabs have a yellow undertone in their complexion. Brown shades are perfect for that because they blend especially well, and they enhance the natural color. Less is more, the subtler the colors look like on your skin, the less artificial you will look, and thus, more natural and more beautiful.</p>
<p>The point of the colors I always use is to mimic your natural tones and enhance them. All around the world, if you look at the trends, makeup is shifting towards the natural. Gone are the days when makeup’s job was to change what you look like, now is the time for makeup to act as an additive to your natural gifts and, very subtly, enhance any minor imperfections.</p>
<p><strong>Let’s See…</strong></p>
<p>There are lots of nude palettes from some of my favorite brands, so you always have the freedom to check out the products.</p>
<p>I’ve written about the <a href="http://halaajam.com/2014/08/17/glow-like-a-goddess/" target="_blank" title="Glow Like A Goddess ">Bronze Goddess collection by Estee Lauder</a> not too long ago, you can read my review on it if you follow this link. It’s a sexy, summery collection that relies on creating a natural, tanned look to bring out a sensual goddess in you. All its tones are subtle and earthy, and they complement your natural complexion perfectly.</p>

<p>So, at the end of the day, going nude is not so bad. Nude might as well be what the world is heading to: simple, minimal, natural. Always remember that you need to be comfortable with yourself in natural makeup, otherwise, trust me, you won’t be happy with any look you go with. Embrace your natural tones and your features and learn how to work around them to create a look that screams individuality!</p>

<p>A girl’s wedding is probably the most important event in her life. I’m pretty sure most of you have been planning it since you were little girls! It’s stressful, challenging, and can drive you to tears, but that’s what it takes to make sure the wedding turns out beautifully.</p>

<p>Between the right gown, the perfect venue, the perfect flower arrangements – things might get a little overwhelming – and more often than not, ladies will need to be reminded that their wedding pictures will last a lifetime! This is why making sure that your skin is absolutely flawless on your big day is just as important as every other element! </p>
<p>It’s very important to avoid any reaction or inflammation makes sure you prep your skin six months before the wedding.</p>
<p><strong>Don’t </strong>try anything new!<strong> </strong>Skin is sensitive, if you try something new such as laser hair removal, a new moisturizer, filler or Botox, you might stir up a reaction and you don’t want that!</p>
<p><strong>Don’t </strong>remove<strong> </strong>hair with a string or wax—that may cause pimples; it’s not wise to do it very shortly before the wedding.</p>
<p><strong>Don’t</strong> leave out any spots: make sure you remove hairs from all the areas of the face. Otherwise the foundation will look uneven. (Picture of uneven concealer)</p>

<p>Foundation will look blotchy and uneven on your face if the hairs are not removed equally from all areas, watch out!</p>

<p><strong>Don’t </strong>overdo the skin peeling. Surely enough, peeling is a method that brides tend to resort to before their wedding, but be careful, overdoing it will make your skin shine in photos – and not in the good way!</p>
<p><strong>Don’t </strong>risk it with food! Do you have any allergies? It’s the perfect time to pay attention to what foods might cause irritation. Avoid spicy foods that might spring up an outbreak or an unwanted reaction.</p>
<p><strong>Don’t </strong>lay in the sun for hours right before the wedding. I’m sure you want that golden bronze tan, but lying in the sun just before your wedding might get you burned. Try avoiding the sun a whole week before the wedding. Any form of a burn could spoil your makeup.</p>
<p><strong>Don’t </strong>think that tan lines can be covered up by makeup!</p>
<p><strong>Don’t</strong> resort to heavy drinking before the wedding. Drinking will dehydrate your complexion and the makeup will not last throughout your wedding night. Avoid drinking right before you get your makeup done as well.</p>
<p><strong>Do </strong>Drink a lot of water!</p>
<p><strong>Do </strong>moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. I cannot say it enough. But ladies, remember, use a moisturizer that you are used to and that you know your skin reacts positively to! As I mentioned, don’t experiment.</p>
<p>Ladies, it’s very important that you take into consideration all the tips I have mentioned in this post, it’s always such a shame for a bride-to-be to experience any form of skin issues right before her wedding because of poor planning. Remember, your wedding pictures will last a lifetime and you definitely want to look flawless for that! Good luck!</p>

<p>It’s important to know that a concealer act as a highlighter, attracting light as well as reflecting it. Choosing the right concealer that is too light will result in “racoon eyes” if used to conceal dark circles—it can also cast an undesirable grayish tone over the skin.</p>
<p>To cover dark circles perfectly mix a small amount of your foundation with the concealer. The concealer should be two shades lighter than your natural skin tone. It will give you more accurate color match and will ensure a natural look by blending seamlessly with your overall skin tone and preventing any distinct contrast in color, tone or texture.</p>
<p>Always try to use a yellow-based concealer—it comes in different shades. Yellow concealer is ideal for covering up <strong>redness—</strong>so it’s good to mask any pinks, veins, or pimples.</p>
<p>Finding the right under-eye concealer may take some time as well as trial and error. However, it will be well worth the effort when you find something that works for you. Normally, peach concealer is a great choice if you need to remove any blue/gray from under your eyes. It’s important to know which tones work for which imperfections.</p>
<p>It’s also very important to keep in mind that liquid concealer is best suited for light coverage and used on delicate areas of the face.</p>

<p><strong>The Story of Primer</strong></p>
<p>Think of primer as a pre-foundation base. It’s the product you would need to prepare your skin for foundation. The problem is that, by the end of the day, a lot of women would complain that they feel their foundation is melting off their face, well, a primer’s job is to make sure this does not happen. Keep this in mind, a good primer’s job is to flatten out the creases in your face, smooth out pores, and help hold your makeup together for longer.</p>
<p><strong> </strong></p>
<p><strong>Less Is More</strong></p>
<p>Remember the <em>less is more </em>concept, it applies with primers as well. Less is more means you don’t need to use a lot of the product, a little bit is all you need. You can place small drops of the fluid under your eyes, on your nose, and on your forehead. Start off at the center and with your fingertips; work the drops of primer towards the rest of your face. Massage your face well with it. Remember, you are creating the perfect base for your foundation, so make sure you achieve full coverage.</p>

<p>Remember ladies, there are always a lot of choices, and you need to know the function of every primer before you use it. Green-tinted primers neutralize redness, dark primers help darken your foundation color. Water-based primer is always a better choice for oily skin rather than silicon-based.</p>

<p><strong>Defining the Brows</strong></p>
<p>Ladies, I cannot say this enough: take nature as your base for everything. Go with nature not against it. If you are tweezing your brows, please, respect your natural arch. Think about accentuating the shape and making it look better, not change it. You want a strong, expressive brow. Also, respect the shape of your face. You don't want a pair of eyebrows that look like they belong to someone else. After grooming, you need to start thinking about penciling them in and filling them up!</p>
<p><strong>Decisions, Decisions...</strong></p>
<p>For filling out the eyebrows, I normally love the <a href="http://www.maccosmetics.com/product/shaded/149/263/Eye-Brows/index.tmpl" target="_blank"><em>Eye Brows Crayon from MAC</em></a> . I recommend, for my audience in the Middle East, three shades: Spiked, Stud, and Lingering. Keep in mind your natural palette and don't stray too far from it.</p>

<p>Ladies, I will have to voice out my distaste for tattooed eyebrows. Natural is in. The more you look like yourself, the more beautiful people will find you, trust me. And that is only because the more you go with nature, the more comfortable you will feel about yourself - and believe me , it will show in your eyes. And that is what makes you beautiful. So please, well-groomed brows with the right filler is more than enough. Consider the natural tones: if your hair is black, go for a dark brown color. If your hair is brown, go for a light brown shade for your brows - same goes for red or coppery hair. If you're a blonde, grayish or light brown filler would also be just fine.</p>
<p>Remember ladies, the role of makeup is to accentuate your natural gifts. If you have thick brows, then celebrate them, if you have thin brows, then you can color them in, but don't resort to more extreme methods. Always visit a good esthetician you trust when it comes to working with your brows - after all, the slightest mistake can cost you!</p>

<p><strong>Eyes on You</strong></p>
<p>First of all you need to establish what type of eye you have. Each type has a specific technique that needs to be respected, so let’s get down to business:</p>

<p>For small eyes, liner inside the waterline is a no-no. It will only shrink your eye. An outstretched, thin line on the upper lash line is perfect. You can use a beige pencil on your waterline to widen your eyes and make them pop, and a brown streak of eyeshadow on the lower lash line for a natural effect.<br />

<p><strong>Far Apart</strong></p>
<p>My advice: start your eyeliner from the innermost corner of your eye all the way till the outer corner.</p>
<p><strong>Too Close!</strong></p>
<p>Do the complete opposite: start your eyeliner from the middle of your lashline to give the illusion that the eyes are further apart. Moreover, a light-colored shadow on the inner corner of the eye will strengthen that effect.</p>
<p><strong>Wide Eyes</strong></p>
<p>Use the liner on your waterline. You can also use the liner on your upper lashline so you can tight line your eyes. Make sure you’re using thick, bold lines, we want to tighten the eye.</p>
<p><strong>Almond Shaped</strong></p>
<p>Everything goes with almond shaped eyes, so you can choose whatever works for you.</p>
<p><strong>Eyes that Sink In</strong></p>
<p>You need to make them pop out more, so you can use a light colored eye shadow on your lid, with a line that starts from your inner corner to your outer corner, make sure it thickens as it goes from in to out.</p>
<p><strong>Heavy-Lidded</strong></p>
<p>You can start off with some brown shadow on the lid, and then go for a super thin and tight line on the upper lash line. Another one on the lower lash line as well; however it should only go from the outer corner to the middle—not all the way to the inner corner. For bolder eyes, a light liner on the waterline will finish off the job.</p>
<p><strong>Circular</strong></p>
<p>You need to have a thick line on your upper lash line, but make sure to extend it to your outer corner to elongate the eye and give it a false almond shape.</p>
<p><strong>The Line Up</strong></p>
<p><strong> </strong></p>
<p> </p>
<p>There are different types of liners to choose from, so you always need to keep in mind the basic qualities of every type of liner.</p>
<p><strong>Liquid</strong></p>
<p>If you have a sturdy hand that doesn’t quiver, I suggest you go for dramatic liquid liner to get that accurate, defined shape you’re looking for. The rich blackness of it is so sixties.</p>
<p><strong>Cream Eye</strong></p>
<p>It lasts pretty long and gives off a great shade, it’s especially good for a day-and-night sort of look. Make sure to wash your brush after every use though.</p>
<p><strong>Powder</strong></p>
<p>It gives you definition but it’s still soft. Make sure to use a fine brush if you want to get tight definition.</p>
<p><strong>Pencil</strong></p>
<p>It’s the most common among all, and as you all may know, it’s super easy to use. If you want a quick natural look, it’s your go-to liner.</p>
<p>And the products are endless!</p>

<p>Bobbi Brown’s Long Wear Gel Eyeliner is a good choice, but if you’re a MAC girl you can opt for Liquidlast Liner or Fluidline. Long Lasting Eyeliner from Chanel is a great choice as well. Guerlain’s Eyeliner is good, as is L’Oreal’s Super Liner Perfect Slim – Intense Black.</p>

<li>Inside the eye, black kohl that stretches all the way to the waterline – it helps create an elongation and a lift for the eye.</li>

<p>Before I start, I’d like to note that there are brand new foundations coming out daily – there will probably be some new ones out by the time this blog is online! But most of the new products that are coming out are equipped with SPF 15 or 20, which is great because they protect your complexion from the sun.</p>
<p><strong>The Right Shade</strong></p>
<p>The first – and most crucial question – ladies ask is: how can I know which shade is ideal for my skin tone?</p>
<p>My answer is: make a streak with the foundation from your cheek down towards your jaw line and take a step or two back from the mirror. If you can clearly see the line on your face, then it is not the right shade for you, next!</p>

<li>I always advise my ladies to try out their foundation in natural light.Artificial light can distort what the actual color looks like.</li>
<li>Use your phone and snap a photo <em>with flash</em> – it will expose any flaws and is your best and most objective critic when it comes to picking out the right foundation (finally, a selfie with a purpose.)</li>
<li>To get ideal coverage, use <a href="http://asmarpro.com/halaajam/article/18/Prime-Time-#content" target="_blank">primer! </a></li>
<li>Your foundation of choice should change seasonally – a tanned summer complexion is worthy of a golden-hued foundation, while pale winter skin could use a nice, moisturizing foundation in a wintry shade.</li>
</ol>
<p><strong>Types and Kinds</strong></p>
<p>Let’s break down the different families of foundation;</p>
<p><strong>Liquid Foundation</strong></p>
<p>It can come in waterproof or non-waterproof versions. Liquid foundations normally look natural on the skin. Watch out – you need to blend the liquid foundation very well on your face using a damp brush or sponge, make sure to achieve perfect coverage from all the way under the jawbone up towards your hairline.</p>
<p>I always go for waterproof. It’s light but gives you full coverage. It gives you a nice glow and is super natural – people normally won’t notice you have it on.</p>
<p><strong>Creamy Foundation</strong></p>
<p>It’s the heaviest type – it normally gives the best coverage – especially if you have veins, pimples, or dark circles.</p>
<p>I recommend using primer before applying it, to assure you get flawless coverage. If you’re feeling too shimmery during your night out, pat your face gently with a napkin to absorb any pesky oils.</p>
<p><strong>Compact Powder</strong></p>
<p>It’s a great choice for working women and young ladies who are always on the go – it’s easy to carry around and it’s perfect for touching up your makeup.</p>
<p>One <em>major </em>mistake women make is that they use the sponge that comes with the compact and then return it to the case. The sponge will end up absorbing the oils on your face, which will soon dry out the powder and ruin it. I always recommend using a brush for applying your powder.</p>

It's a bit heavy, so I recommend you apply compact or loose powder over it to make sure it sets in.</p>

<p>A lot of women have the misconception that before they apply mascara, they need to pump the wand (and very aggressively, might I add!) first.</p>
<p>This, my readers, is a huge makeup myth and I’m about to bust it.</p>
<p><strong>The Myth, Busted</strong></p>
<p>When you pump the wand, what happens is that you force air bubbles into the container. And that’s bad for two main reasons. First, that could cause you mascara to dry out much faster and that’s definitely not what you want. Not only that, but forcing air into the tube can help any germs that latch onto the brush to multiply inside. You don’t want to cause any infections or reactions for the future, so let’s avoid that.</p>
<p><strong>Quick Tips</strong></p>
<ol>
<li><strong>Pull. </strong>When you want to pull out the wand, instead of pumping it, move it gently around inside the tube.</li>
<li><strong>Apply.</strong>Always start from the base of the lashes—the mascara on the roots gives the illusion of length. Swipe up the brush wiggling left-and-right as you go.</li>
<li><strong>Cleanse. </strong>Make sure you remove the mascara before going to bed with a gentle eye makeup remover using a cotton buds. Be gentle on the eye, then wash your face, don't leave the make up remover on the eyes, it's not healthy.</li>
<li><strong>Trash. </strong>Are your expiration dates in check? Throw out your old mascaras to protect your eyes from irritations or infections! I usually give it a life-time of 3 months only as of the day I open it - write the date on it!</li>
<li><strong>Purchase</strong>. Make sure you don't buy a mascara that the sales person opens for you. It happened to me once in the airport, it's a bad habit we have in the Middle East. Make sure the mascara is sealed and untouched, we don't want any reactions or irritations!</li>

<p>A round face is defined by a circular jawline. It arches softly and has no angles. What you want to go for is a bit of an elongated look with your jaw, which is why it’s ideal to apply a two-shades-darker concealer along the edges of your face. Let it sweep from your temples down to your jawline to give a slimming illusion. Complement that by using a lighter concealer on your chin.</p>

You can achieve this by applying the dark concealer from the outer corner of your hairline and stroke it inwards towards your cheekbones.</p>

<p>I’ve been getting a lot of questions about cream blushes, how to apply them, and when. Well, there are a lot of misconceptions towards cream blushes and more often than not, ladies can be a bit hesitant about trying them – eventually sticking to their powder blush. But the truth of the matter is, cream blush has some great advantages you really need to know about!</p>
<p><strong>It Moisturizes</strong></p>

<p>Cream blushes are perfect for women with dry skin. In a case where powder blush might help dry you out further, a light, feathery cream blush will actually moisturize and give off a healthy, dewy glow.</p>

<p>The advantage cream blush has is that it’s a very natural blush. If applied the right way – and I will explain what the right way is in a minute – it blends so seamlessly with your cheeks and gives off a subtle, warm blushing effect, without drawing attention to the blush itself.</p>

And then, gently start tapping your cheeks and blending as you go. <em>Blending </em>is very important with cream blush. If you feel like you need help blending, you can always use a sponge or a brush to make sure you let it set seamlessly into your cheeks.</p>

<p>Sleep is a primal factor in your routine. It's essential namely because it's exactly what helps your body re-generate and rejuvenate. A large number of ladies will sacrifice precious hours of sleep either because they're workaholics or partiers, but the truth of the matter is, sleep is not something that can be sacrificed. Not only is the myth of "sleep debt" in fact a scientific reality, but lack of sleep can give off debilitating symptoms that will interfere with the way you go about your normal, everyday activities. And of course, sleep is beneficial to making sure your beauty remains in check!</p>
<p><strong>Do a pseudo-spa routine </strong>before going to bed. If you'd read my blog on how to<a href="http://halaajam.com/2015/01/14/create-your-home-spa/" title="Create your Home Spa!"> mimic a spa in your own bathroom</a>, you'd definitely have a few tips in mind on how you can pamper yourself before going to bed. Soaking in a nice warm bath and leaving behind the stresses and tensions of the day is a perfect way to get yourself ready for bed. If you're in Jordan, or have someone flying in from there, I suggest you get some Dead Sea salts, they're so good for you. <p>First, you need to ensure a space with good room and good lighting. A big table near a window is ideal, we have a lot of work to do... Let's start with the three S's: Spread, Sort, Store!</p>

<p>Okay, so now you need to think in <strong>categories. </strong>Start splitting up the products. Let's think with the bottom-to-top logic;</p>
